Musical Subway Turnstiles? We’re all for ‘em!

I’m an avid subway rider – it’s the easiest way to get around this city (and I don’t totally understand the bus system). When I read in NY Mag about one intrepid creative’s  (none other than LCD Soundstystem’s former frontman, James Murphy) concept of adding some music to the turnstile, I got excited. I remember seeing the piano stairs in the past and other such concepts, and love the idea of bringing a little fun and something unexpected to a rote ride uptown. Like wind chimes for people…Come on MTA, lighten up & let the music play! Read about James Murphy & the musical subway in NY Mag.

Off the Walls: 1970s Punk Poster Scene

Andrew Krivine posters II

Anarchy has left the U.K. and it’s relocated to Philly. The Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia shows off a collection of punk era artwork and ephemera, celebrating the rage against the machine, safety pins, combat boots, studs and grommets that symbolized the period. “Pretty Vacant, The Graphic Language of Punk” brings together works by Peter Saville, Gee Vaucher and more collected by Andrew Krivine, on view until March 15. Via Huffington Post.

**If you make it to Philly, you can join Robert Drake, host of “Land of the Lost” on WXPN, for a reception celebrating “Pretty Vacant: The Graphic Language of Punk”  with a LOTL Music Mix by Robert Drake and libations donated by the show’s friends at Tattooed Mom, 530 South Street. Free to the public.

Just roll with it: Home decorating has gone to the kids

A moment of distraction, an instant with my eyes elsewhere and my beautiful sofa had become an impromptu art project for my two girls. Sheer horror. I  quickly looked up every chemical compound known to man, additional covers, and anything else to cover up this call to creativity. (Lesson: Never take your eyes off a 2 year old!). Now, years later, I’ve come across (albeit and old article) from the New York Times of a mother who decided to embrace the chaos and celebrate it in her house. And, it works! Check it out!
