Girl Rising

We had the opportunity to see an amazing movie last night with our friends at 85 Broads. Girl Rising is about what happens when a girl is given the gift and privilege of education. The documentary turns on the fact that if you invest in the education of girls, the investment is proven to pay back in spades. Tracing poignant stories of girls from all over the world: Nepal, Peru, India, Afghanistan, Egypt, Haiti, Sierra Leone, the documentary effectively conveys both the challenges of being a girl in many developing nations and how these young “regular” girls rose up to the challenges, and were empowered by the opportunity of schooling. It is a phenomenal movie that inspires change, action and should be shared. Check it out here – plan a screening, attend a screening, support the cause.

A Family that Tags together Stays together!

Visit the Museum of the City of New York on Saturdays in May (10th, 17th, 24th and 31st) and make a large scale mural, as a companion activity to the Museum’s exhibition, City as Canvas: Graffiti Art from the Martin Wong Collection.

And, closer in time (this Thursday) – but what I think will be more of an adult event than kid-fun, the museum is screening “Wild Style” and hosting a chat with the movie’s director Charlie Ahearn, who will also speak about graffiti artist celebrated in the museum’s current exhibit City as Canvas, Martin Wong. “Wild Style” was the world’s first hip hop motion picture. Also on hand for the evening will be street artists Zephyr & Sharp. Light refreshments will be served.

Banksy vs. Pransky No.9

We loved the idea of taking Banksy’s old skool  and replacing with our new skool (which is an awesome San Fran based brand, btw!). We borrowed this super cool BoomCase in lieu of the classic boom box (refashioned from a vintage suit case), and a Fresco loft high chair in lieu of the metal stool. And of course, instead of the luggage, we wheeled in Bugaboo’s newest ride, the Classic Cameleon 3, which we promptly tagged. Photographer: Katrina Tang Style Director: Michel Onofrio Hair & Makeup: Laura Castellano
