Fancy yourself a great gifter? Read on!

Great gifts special cool gifts for kidsEveryone knows a great gifter – in fact you might even be one – they are magically able to always find the perfect present -the one that connects to you, your interests, likes and tastes. Something thoughtful. Something only you would give. So what’s the secret? Here are some tips so that you can be the gift-giver who gets a standing “O” for OMGAWESOME!

1. Make it personal: You went to an awesome JZ concert with your friend pre-baby? How bout that Rockabye Baby J-Z CD? Your friend loves pop art ? Maybe an Andy Warhol board book, a Warhol banana footmuff and a pack of Warhol inspired baby socks by Trumpette.

2. Work a theme: Give a gift that rocks! A rock onesie, CD and cool booties make a statement!

3. Mix it up: Use a variety of sizes, or a variety of categories wrapped around your theme. Going for a cool indie baby-Coachella inspired dress by Bobo Choses? Maybe add a book, like Cinderella, a fashionable tale, or a cool mirror necklace by Little Creative Factory.

4. Be a wrap star: Presentation is just as important! Make sure you wrap it with some super cool paper so it’s even more special!

5. Don’t forget the card: Add a cool card and a personalized note!

Being a great gift giver is being personal. Shop special!

Join us at the Tribeca Family Festival

Screen Shot 2014-04-05 at 12.29.37 PMMark your calendars for April 26 is this year’s family festival in Tribeca. This amazing outdoor fair features a wide array of free activities and performances, as well as lots of food & wares from the local community. We’ve been going for nearly seven years, and it never fails to be an awesome day!

Some highlights this year include a film making experience with  Tribeca Studios backlot where you get to perform in front of a green screen,  a live chef demonstration from a local restaurant, kite flying, video game playing in the Games for Change Public Arcade, and my personal favorite, making life-size bubbles in the Bubble Garden. There are tons more arts & crafts and more going on all day. There are also free screenings!

We can’t wait to see you there! We’ll be somewhere along Greenwich street so please pop in and say hi! We’ll be tweeting & instagraming throughout the day and we’re hoping to have some special new things, not seen in store yet, just for our booth!

Street Art at the Museum! New Museum First Saturday for Famlies

New Museum Pawel Althamer

From 10-12am this Saturday, families are invited to the New Museum on Bowery to participate in a special workshop centered on

Pawel Althamer’s Draftsmen’s Congress, part of the current exhibition The Neighbors.

It’s a giant street style graffiti fest on the fourth floor of the Museum. New Museum educators will also offer family friendly tours (tip, if you go at it alone, there is some work that makes for awkward family conversations). Althamer

First Saturday for Families is recommended for families with children 4-12 years old. No preregistration required. Space is limited and first come first serve.

PaweAlthamer’s exhibit “The Neighbors” ends 4/13/14, so catch it in the next 2 weeks! It’s the first time his work, centered on figurative sculptures, is shown in a US museum.  The cumulative graffiti fest, Draftsmen’s Congress, originally presented at the 7th Berlin Biennial in 2012,  is a communal work that has grown over the time his show has been running.

Plan your visit to New Museum. Thanks to Elodie for her awesome Pranksy-graffiti, part of Draftsmen’s Congress. Let us know if you go & see it!!!

Why to Hit the Whit! Whitney Biennial is in full swing!

It’s Whitney Biennial time! The walls of the Whitney are filled with interesting, beautiful, thought provoking works that make a great outing with kids. The idea of the Biennial is that all of the works have been made within the last 2 years, so they’re “hot off the presses!” Different textures and techniques make it an engaging time–we  loved the tent made of lace and beaded curtain hung with ordinary objects by Joel Otterson as well as an impressive room installation that reflects the outside architecture and cityscape by Zoe Leonard.

On upcoming Saturdays, kids have the added opportunity to meet some of the artists in their Family Programs. The Whitney is slated to move downtown in 2015 so this is the last Biennial in its current home, and not to be missed. Pop over to the park afterwards for a really “New York” day! Enjoy!
