Archive: Inside Look at Babesta

How do I beat this heat?

There’s a simple solution to that! At Babesta, we did a bit of research and discovered… SWIMMING POOLS. You can never go wrong with taking a dip in the water to beat the hot summer heat. We found many locations in New York, so no worries about whether it is too far!

According to timeout, there are 11 (that’s right ELEVEN!) different pools, which most are free of cost!! Here are three of the eleven that sounded coolest:

  1. Astoria Pool: located in Astoria Park, 19th St at 23rd Ave, Astoria, Queens: This pool has “Olympic-size lanes.” The pool is ginormous with a lot of space for you to lay out your towels and tan! This is a local favorite of many New Yorkers! It is also free of charge.

  2. The Floating Pool; located in Barretto Point Park, Intersection of Tiffany St. and Viele Ave.  That’s correct. You read correctly. A floating pool. This is a seven lane pool that is atop a movable barge. It was once located in Brooklyn Heights but was moved permanently to Barretto Point Park. There are locker rooms, a great view, and plenty of space to sit down and enjoy a floating pool! And of course, it is free of charge!

  3. And critics’ choice, McCarren Park Pool; located at Lorimer St between Bayard St and Driggs Ave, Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
This is a37,571 square-foot pool, which is very spacious! There is plenty of space around the pool for beach chairs and towels. You will certainly have a great time with your families and friends. However, there is usually a large crowd due to tourists and families who want to enjoy the sun! It was renovated and reopened in 2012, and ever since, more and more people have been visiting. It will certainly be a fun time! Once again, free of cost!

Babesta also gathered a few summer outfits and essentials that can be worn to the pool or to the beach!

Spy Fashion: what’s your frame?

Today, July 8, we are hosting a Wig in the Window Spy Workshop at Babesta Cribz! Kristen Kittscher will teach a group of young boys and girls how to create the best spy story! Inspired by this event, we wondered, “What would a great spy outfit be?” Using all our resources here at Babesta, we tracked down a few clothes and accessories that will be great for our adorable Spies!

Great for both boys and girls, these spy outfits will help our spies look stylish while tracking down who ate the last cookie ! The adorable tees remind us of spies, while the fedoras really compliment the outfit. These cute Sons and Daughters Sunglasses really complete the outfit, and the spy kit and notebook can help our little spies look for and write down clues!

Rosie’s Theater Kids Rocked the Stage at Passing it On

So last night I went to the Passing it On event, the annual show by Rosie’s Theater Kids. I am so blown away by these folks–making such a huge difference in the lives of kids in the city. Even more blown away by the kids themselves–amazing. One group sang “You Gotta Have Heart” with Rosie herself, and other amazing numbers were choreographed and directed by people like BD Wong (“M. Butterfly/Law & Order SVU”) and John Tartaglia (Avenue Q).

It was a wonderful event by an organization that addresses a big problem:  anyone with a kid in the public school system knows, when money’s tight, the Arts are always the first in line to be cut. Enter this organization which provides free regular classes in performing  to some of the most in-need public schools and then offer after school and summer programs to kids who audition and get chosen. Participation is based on passion and need over talent. Not only giving access to a talented panel of teachers and mentors, the organization helps them academically with tutoring programs and helps to get them into performing arts high schools as well.

Thanks for the show. Inspiring! Big Shoutout from your pals at Babesta! Pass it on…

New Office for Babesta

We’re pretty excited at Babesta as we are starting to settle into our new office! There are desks, new flor tiles, orange and grey paper storage/filing bins and even an architectural archway that has been painted underneath with totally groovy dry-erase paint. It’s still a bit of a work in progress but we’re nearly there! A tiny peek: More pictures coming soon!

Celebrating Life on the Fly at Babesta & Bugaboo’s “Bee in the City” party!

We’re throwing a bash with our fave stroller brand, Bugaboo, to celebrate living life on the fly (and living a fly life)!  We’re debuting the latest installment of Bubaboo’s video series, this time detailing the urban adventure of stylist and blogger Latonya Staubs, her family and her Bugaboo Bee. Latonya will share some of her fave go-tos in the city, DJ Neil will spin some rad tunes, we’ll all eat some yummy cupcakes and enjoy. Cheers to city moms!!

We are big fans of the Bee, as it happens, as Babesta is curated for a city child, so it only make sense that a light weight, agile, easy to fold and high quality (& super stylish) stroller would be the guest of honor.

We’ll even be doing some stroller cleaning to those who pre-sign up for it (make an appointment ahead of time by calling 646 290 5508).

The deets: Come to Babesta Cribz, 56 Warren Street, March 6, from 1:00-3:00pm.

Also (as if this wasn’t enough) a Bugaboo Bee & accessory will be raffled off!!!!
