It was a madhouse during the MOVE fashion & art event at Brookfield Place this past weekend! Although Friday was a bit umbrella-upturning with hints of Joachim, Sat & Sunday were perfect days for families to hit the mall lifestyle center and partake in the fun participatory activities from gender-bending makeovers, fashionable carnival type games, or walking the red carpet with some handsome soap opera starlugs building their quads escorting swoonerz down a red carpet to the flashing lights of the “paparazzi.”
During the event, Babesta offered up some hands-on fun in-store (as well as black and white cookies & libations) – as we invited shoppers to participate in building our windows! On one side, we had the newest hottest gift for holidays debuting super sized! Pirasta’s coloring posters were showstoppers, inspiring both “color within the line-types” and “free spirits” to stop and color with us. On the other side, we debuted the new uber cool Bugaboo Denim x Diesel stroller that sat atop a denim drop cloth. We invited shoppers to help us “Distress to Impress”. We brought all the implements you’d need and we ripped, painted, grated, cut and tweezed the denim into stylish submission!
Miffy, the cherished girl bunny, has been delighting children since her inception in 1955. This year we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the beloved character. Miffy officially became 60 years young on Sunday, June 21st, and premiered her movie in London’s West End. The beloved bunny, however, deserves more than just one day, why not a parade? The Miffy Art Parade has no less than 60 statues designed in the bunny’s honor by esteemed artists and will be touring worldwide. Throughout Japan and Holland, where Dick Bruna created Miffy, more than half a decade ago, the statues are on display to delight Miffy fans. Since March, one by one, a new Miffy doll has been revealed. The final statue shown, designed by Marte Röling of Holland, (Miffy’s birth place), is all in gold.
Another Miffy favorite was designed by two New York based artists Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin using florals, Drew Barrymore and Lara Stone (a Holland model) for an inspirational mashup. While some statues have replicas for you to snatch up, the original statues will be auctioned off for UNICEF after the tour is completed this October. Happy Birthday Miffy!
We had a blast celebrating the AKid x MiniMode launch of a fab new sneaker replete with cool emoji patches in poppy yellow and soft blue. So many friends there – from style wunderkid London Scout and mom Sai to editors of Vogue, In Style, Downtown Mom, Passported (formally Feather & Flip) and more. The Phhhoto booth was a bit of fun – capturing quick gifs for Instagram of the crowd – kid & adult alike – having a blast with the awesome new kicks from one of our absolutely favorite shoe brands, Akid!
MOVE! into October with fabulous fashion & art courtesy of the new downtown mall, Battery Park City’s own, Brookfield Place. Home to luxury staples DVF, Burberry, Vince, Scoop & Babesta, who will all participate in the interactive MOVE! experience. Kicking off Friday, October 2nd, at 12pm the event will last all weekend pairing designers and artists.
Talk about a true selfie, “Pose”, matches Diane Von Furstenberg and Ryan McNamara creating an original wrap-dress donning you! McNamara’s art has been displayed in local museums such as the Whitney and MoMa. Playing with gender, “Crossover” plays with the transformation of females to males and vice-versa with a little help from Cos Bar featuring Yves Saint Laurent Beauty products and artist James Kaliardos. To earn a special (yummy) treat, Le District is taking “singing for your supper” up a notch. Learn a choreographed dance from artist Elana Langer in “Dance Deal” and a pastry snack will be yours.
Babesta will be celebrating the event with two opportunities (including opening day) for participants to add their artistic flair to our store windows! One window will feature a painting-on-denim communal project to celebrate the newest fashionable stroller, the denim Diesel x Bugaboo collaboration! The other will feature an image by illustrator James Gulliver Hancock and participants will get to color the image themselves. Both art pieces will be displayed through the month of October in Babesta’s window. Visitors can participate & enjoy the art, nibble on some snacks and sip a wine or juice box.

We had a wonderful time at the Brookfield block party this weekend where the Bugaboo Runner was the star of the show at the Babesta booth. Handing out the latest edition of the Babesta Beat on a gorgeous Sunday, it was the perfect weather to chat with some downtown locals (tourists too) about our new store at Brookfield Place and the hottest items out this fall season. After taking a relaxing spin around the block party parents were ready to learn about the new Runner and how to stay active with their baby. Lively parents you do not have to compromise your daily jogging routine since Bugaboo offers two options for the Runner; adding the new edition to your stroller portfolio or simply attaching the runner extension to your existing Bugaboo Bee / Bee³, Bugaboo Cameleon³, Bugaboo Buffalo or Bugaboo Donkey. Not to fret, if you could not make it to Battery Park City this weekend, you can still test out the Bugaboo Runner with our loaner program in store (Tribeca Cribz/Brookfield Place). Also fresh in the F/W 2015 edition of the Babesta Beat are the stylish paper dollz (already a fan fave), ready to get decked out in their Babesta best!
Make this Sunday an active day outside soaking up the last rays of September sunshine. Begin the morning by testing out a Bugaboo Runner (or runner extension if you have your own) from the Babesta booth at Brookfield Place’s Block Party, going on 11:30-4:30pm.
Borrow-a-runner for a few hours and see downtown’s Hudson River Park attractions in a whole new light. With so many exciting nooks & crannies throughout lower Manhattan’s answer to Central Park, you might forget to keep running. The family friendly trail is chalk full of activities and sights, so we narrowed down the best spots south of Chelsea Piers.
In order of appearance:
1. Begin by catching a breathtaking view of the Statue of Liberty
2. Bump, set & spike: the volleyball courts at North Cove (between Liberty & Vesey streets) are open through November.
3. Keep the game going by playing on the Rockefeller Park Basketball Court (between Warren & Murray streets). Younger kids can slide & swing through the playground.
4. Teardrop Park (Warren street): is ready to go for the water play fanatic.
5. North End Ave Island Dog Run (between Warren & Murray streets): has separate spaces for big dogs and little doggies.
6. Pier 25 at N Moore Street:
a. Mini Golf-Grab a club & putt over, under and through waterfalls, streams, a pond, foot bridges, sand traps and a cave too.
b. Grand Banks-If all this running around has whetted your whistle (seafood anyone?) why not grab a bite while experiencing some history. Chow down at Grand Banks, a restaurant aboard the Sherman Zwicker, also known as the last original salt bank fishing vessel in existence. Delish eats plus bonus points for helping to support maritime preservation.
7. Catch an organized sporting match at Pier 40 (Houston Street): indoor/outdoor & rooftop fields offer a variety of fun sports.
8. “Everything” by Hanna Liden (at Christopher Street): Public Artwork’s tasty & attention grabbing sculpture that attracts kids and adults alike. Fun Fact: Liden chose bagels to illustrate the “eternal cycle of city life.”
(We spotted this awesome picture by By Aria Isadora/BFA in VF Culture)
9. 14th Street Park (near Chelsea Market): All you need is a blanket to claim your spot chillin’ along the Hudson.
10. Chelsea Piers (17-23rd streets): Enjoy limitless options from Bowlmor to shopping to the Field House.
Hope you enjoyed your run along the Hudson River Trail! Don’t forget to run (or jog) back!
We’re super stoked that Rowdy Sprout has hit our shelves at Babesta! This awesome line of rocker tees gets better every season. Kids love the soft touch, parents love the cool styles. We’re digging all the Hendrix this season as well as the Willie Nelson “On the Road Again!” We even did a new exclusive tee with Rowdy Sprout this season – our “GRADE PENDING” tee, which we think is the ultimate statement for the back to school season!
