We’re super stoked that Rowdy Sprout has hit our shelves at Babesta! This awesome line of rocker tees gets better every season. Kids love the soft touch, parents love the cool styles. We’re digging all the Hendrix this season as well as the Willie Nelson “On the Road Again!” We even did a new exclusive tee with Rowdy Sprout this season – our “GRADE PENDING” tee, which we think is the ultimate statement for the back to school season!
We are so stoked to welcome the newest collection from Baby Degen in the shop! We love the modern, colorful seperates hand knit in Brooklyn by knitting wunderkind Lindsay Degen! These are truly unique, high quality and fun, made from natural materials such as 100% merino wool, alpaca and Spanish cotton. One of our favorite go-tos for baby gifts this season, pair a hat or bootie with a cute teether or rattle and voila! Made in Brooklyn all the way!
Haven’t quite found the right way to beat the heat this summer? With July coming to a close and the “dog days” of summer ahead, we may have found your go-to spot! A giant water slide is coming to downtown Manhattan, Foley Square, for three Saturdays in a row, beginning this weekend!
Indulging in this refreshingly glorious way to cool off (270-feet of water slide), is part of Slide in the City’s partnership with Summer Streets, the annual festival where the people of the city take over their own streets! Stretching from Central Park to the Brooklyn Bridge, people in NYC can enjoy their own backyard for walking, biking, partying and now sliding!
All activities, stretching 7 miles along Park Avenue (and connecting streets), are free and open to participants of all ages from 7am-1pm! For a ride on the water slide register ahead of time online. Then get ready to slip, splash, slide and most importantly cool off!

New York based designer, KAWS is sharing his art with his own ‘hood this summer. The Brooklyn residing KAWS, aka Brian Donnelly, is bringing his sculptures and paintings to the Brooklyn Museum. KAWS, who previously worked for Disney, is displaying his take on familiar cartoon imagery, which are reminiscent in the main attraction; “Along the Way.” The two eighteen-foot-high wooden sculptures are a colossal greeting to visitors as they enter the museum. They will be hard to miss in the Martha A. and Robert S. Rubin Pavilion & Lobby. KAWS, who began his career as a graffiti artist, has a growing fan base as his artwork was showcased in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This latest exhibit also includes the paintings GLASS SMILE (2012) and SHOULD I BE ATTACKING (2013).

Be sure to take advantage of the latest promo for the awesome City Select stroller by Baby Jogger. This awesome ride can convert from 1 to 2 and is one of our fave sets of wheels for city kids – both mixed age and twins. The narrow profile and the flexibility of the frame make this a great in line option for two. And this month, we are offering a free 2nd seat with the purchase of a City Select stroller. Can’t beat it! Call to reserve yours at 646 290 5508 or swing by one of our shops at 56 Warren street, or 250 Vesey Street at Brookfield Place. www.babesta.com.
Journey to the world of Raneytown! We were reminded of imaginative artist, Rebeca Raney’s, hand-painted artwork when she gifted us Friendship rocks (made with matching colors to share with your friends). The imaginative, Brooklyn-based artist, has branched out from sketches to assemble a collection of goods that now include one-of-a-kind bags, wallpaper, note cards and more. Filled with a whimsical cast of characters, Rebeca’s designs have been displayed around the world from Miami to Japan.
Teaming up with Uprise Artist, Ms. Raney has opened her pop up shop in Nolita at 171 Elizabeth street. Stop by an exhibit of signature sketches on display at Babesta Cribz to enjoy some of her earlier works.
Headed over to David Zwirner this weekend and got to see the newest Yayoi Kusama exhibit. Although I thought it might have died down a smidge, it was a gorgeous day so the line was long! Such a fun show for both kids and adults! As you approach the front door of a suburban-looking house on 19th street (in the gallery), you’re handed a sheet of re-stickable polka dot stickers with which you’re invited to decorate the interior. Walking in is a wow-moment, as the once-whitewashed interior is inundated with brightly colored dots 5 deep- on the walls, floors, sofas, tables and chairs. Of course, it’s hard to resist decorating those around you as well, and I daresay no one left without a mark of the artist, colorful dots making an escape on clothes, faces and iPhones, spilling out into the Chelsea streets and beyond. The adjacent exhibit of Kusama’s features a patch of silver polkadotted pumpkins (note this part is not participatory – they take any extra stickers as you leave the house so be sure to use them all).
Grabbing a snack at Chelsea Market after the exhibit, we spotted many still-spotted people, who had clearly visited the same, still wearing proudly their many badges of pop culture art just a few blocks away.
THUMBS UP! But note: Long wait, short exhibit – pick your time wisely! Fun, participatory and great for kids and adults alike.
