Amazing playspaces via The Coolhunter

Posted July 27, 2009 By babesta

The Coolhunter always aggregates the BEST examples of playspaces. I can imagine kids going crazy for any of the spaces they showed on the July 16 post. And a great point they bring up to: our communities should invest in artistic, interesting, compelling and appropriate community playspaces – we spend mucho dinero on adult playgrounds – so should we for our children.

Just going thru some of our material over here and reveling at the beautiful kids photographs by local photog Christopher Auger-Dominguez from Studio 4B. He shot our Superhero event last year and sends us updates of his amazing kids work. Always creative and interesting, his work is currently being shown at the NoMa group Photo Exhibit "Economy" at The City College of New York's Compton-Goethals Gallery (Amsterdam Ave btwn 139th and 140th.) It ends tomorrow and with the forecast of rain, it might be a fun indoor activity. If you miss it check out his work at Studiofourb.com.

Another fab photog we have our eye on, is Sarah Sloboda. First of all, we well appreciate a photographer "optimist" as she calls herself! Glass half full, hooray! Her children's work speaks for itself and she has been touted by many mags and media as one to watch!  find her at sarahsloboda.com

The pics on DS look Amazing – a really well designed, fun, whimsical space to indulge in creativity and get a nutritious snack. Check out on DS here and Moomah's website here.  This will be a great addition to Tribeca!

How to Pitch: baby market

Posted July 16, 2009 By babesta

This little piggy went nowhere. If you don't study the place you are pitching the piggies won't fly.

There are so many things that come by our desk – from clothing to cribs to the latest mom-friendly gadgets. The problem is, so many pitchers don't qualify their leads. They don't research the company they are giving the heads up about their product and well, it falls flat. We urge you to make sure every pitch rocks  and resonates llke a sound 1-2 check.

We're super stoked here at Babesta as our shipment of Rocker Princess tutus have arrived. In black and purple, black and pink, lavender and fuschia. They're $32, and are at their best paired with a Cinderella tee or a stones concert shirt. Get out your lighters & your finger sandwiches. This is high-low at its best. www.babesta.com

This cool drawing kit was shown at the Philips Simplicity event in London. It takes the Painting with Light Shopping Mall art to the literal. Your kids can use the Philips kit to draw all over the walls (or any surface) with no messy clean up. We can't wait to get our hands on this one!

As seen on The Coolhunter.

Flats i can live with

Posted June 24, 2009 By babesta

Back in the day, i used to swear by heels. But becoming a mom sort of changes that. It's hard to wear vertiginous pumps with a baby strapped to your front. With kids, there are some lifestyle changes, yes, but when i go out I still favor as high a heel as i can find.

The sad thing is I don't make it that far before my feet, which have evidently forgotten the pitch of the heel, get a little whoozy from the altitude and throw in the towel.

I was thrilled to see this super cool concept "Rollasole" out of the UK (spotted vis a vis carrieconnects.com) – a company that fills vending machines with trendy ballet flats that can be your sole savior in a pinch. They're sold at clubs in the UK, and I'm all for them coming stateside to save me on those nights when my fashion sense says yes, but before long my feet say no.

Sparkly & stylish, it's the new look in sensible shoes — even smartly rolling up to fit in the most diminutive of purse.

Apparently, according to Boing Boing (and researchers at University "Gabriele d'Annunzio" in Chieti,Italy, people are more apt to respond affirmatively if you direct your query to their right ears. After a series of studies, using clubbers in a noisy bar as test subjects, with the objective of bumming the most things-that-your-children-will-never-smoke-but-labbits-do, the right ear won.

I will conduct my own experiment at home in my noisy house and see which daughter i can persuade to eat her vegetables, skip dessert and go to bed on schedule.
