Hola DFC. Me Gusta Mucho!

Posted October 27, 2011 By babesta

Gift fair isn't until January, so I know I won't see the folks from DFC for a little bit, unless I can work in a trip to Mexico, but it's doubtful.  Luckily, to hold us over, we have a little bit of their fantastical creative minds in Babesta Cribz these days – the cotton candy pink glossy unicorn trophy head. It's like its been pulled from a daydream and plunked on our wall.  I'm dying to pair it with the Vetro lucite crib by Nurseryworks and a pink Nook pebble mattress and maybe a swirl area rug by SpiBaby. These trophy heads come in all sorts of animals and sizes and colors (including chrome!!)

*Another favorite: the gold and glittery cat head that I couldn't help but get for myself.

DFC is a Mexico City based design team –Tony Moxham and Mauricio Paniagua. Moxham was an art director at mags like Detour, Interview and (my favorite!!) The Face. Paniagua is a painter who studied  industrial design. The combo – highly editorial, avant guard and awesome.

Heidi Kenney did it AGAIN!

Posted March 31, 2011 By babesta

With the yummy breakfast craze in full swing, we decided to check in with our favorite crafter Heidi Kenney. She just came to Babesta in January for an Xtreme Playdate event making irresistable Valentine heart keychains, with eyeballs of course. When she returned home, it seems that she got cracking on some homemade Angry Birds and Black-Eyed Pigs (as my daughters call them), a treat for her son. Hers are my favorite iteration of these plush toys. I think that we will see more and more Angry Birds stuff for pint size iPad lovers–unlike Thomas the Tank Engine and Elmo, these got mom and dad's stamp of approval first. This comes by means of Technabob.com/pics from Flickr.

Newly Listed: Bennett Townhouse (eta Spring 2011)

Posted November 16, 2010 By babesta

The snazziest dollhouse on the block [Emerson House] now got a fabulous sibling named Bennett. Debuting in Spring 2011 this townhouse style house is a dolly playpen in squares and rectangles with a dose of asymatry. Says Architect and brinca dada Design Principal Tim Boyle of Bennett House, “Townhouses are typically a stack of floors with a few windows on each floor, and no inside/outside relationship. I prefer architecture that reveals structure and engineering, hence windows extend past floors to show the weight and thickness of the structure." It's heady for a child's dollhouse but my easy take-away: I want to live here.

The details: The townhouse features a two-story living room, elevator, roof top pool and glass rail balconies in both the master bedroom and children’s bedroom. Solar-powered LED lights make for play by sun or moon. And Bennett House is made of CARB-certified woods and non-toxic, lead-free paints and stains, so it is easy on the environment.

Peerless Pier 25 in Tribeca

Posted November 15, 2010 By babesta

We checked out Pier 25 this weekend – the much hyped mega-project on the Hudson around North Moore Street. The park was crowded but beautiful. There's tons of great playground equipment that was entertaining a school's worth of kids. There's a great skatepark, a dogrun, a beach volleyball court and chaise area overlooking the water. Come Spring 2011 the mini golf will open too – which should be a blast. It's a great addition to the neighborhood and will definitely be on the short list of "to do's" on any sunny day.

Check it out if you haven't! Pier25.com

We are wild about opportunities to hone our creative spirits. Sketchfest 2011 offers just that. Before November 15th, you've got to go to The Arthouse Coop and purchase your sketchbook for $25 and additional digitization of it for $20. You also have to pick a theme. There are lots of themes to choose from, from "Happy Thoughts" to "Face in the crowd" to "(Insert name here)".

Then sketch away until January 15, when you turn in your Moleskine. The Brooklyn Art Library and a host of other locations around the country will display the results. All books will be barcoded and shown to the public. They call it "a concert tour but for sketchbooks" – with stops in Brooklyn, NY;  Austin, TX; San Francisco, CA; Portland, OR; Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; Washington DC and Winter Park, FL.

This positively rocks. Check it out at Arthouse Coop.
