OK. I admit it. I watched it last night. "So you think you can dance" - the American Idol of the dance floor. And it wasn't so bad. It made me wish that I didn't have two left feet and long to remember the steps of the one coordinated dance I did: the first dance with my groom at my wedding.
But my daughter is bound to be luckier. Especially if, once she's school-age, she has Dancing Classrooms progam in her school. It's a program put on by the American Ballroom Theater for 4th, 5th and 6th graders in NYC. They learn Latin (Merengue and Rumba), and Ballroom (Foxtrot, Waltz and Tango), Swing and Line Dancing as well as the history, and geography of the dance.
The benefits: social awareness, self esteem and best of all fun. Wallflowers be gone!
